How to Specify — The Four Decisions

01. Acoustic Target

Define the required STC (ASTM E90) or Rw (ISO 10140) rating for the specific room pairing — e.g., ballroom/ballroom, conference/lobby. Use the rating that applies to your jurisdiction and get the test report for the exact panel configuration.

02. Room Geometry

Establish the opening width, ceiling height, floor finish type, and the structural ceiling above the track. These determine panel width, number of panels, and available stacking positions.

03. Stacking Configuration

Decide whether panels stack in the same bay (single-track straight), turn a corner to a stacking alcove (L-track), or park in a dedicated remote store room (multi-track). This affects structural and ceiling coordination significantly.

04. Panel Finishes

Select surface finish (melamine, wood veneer, fabric, HPL, glass) and confirm that the finish does not compromise the acoustic performance of the tested assembly.

STC vs. Rw — Which Standard Applies?

The styleMOVE range is tested under both ASTM E90 (United States, Canada, Latin America) and ISO 10140 (European Union, UK, Australia, and most international building codes). STC (Sound Transmission Class) and Rw (weighted sound reduction index) values are numerically similar but are not directly interchangeable — they use different frequency weighting curves and contour fitting methods.

For international projects, request the test report in the standard required by the local authority having jurisdiction. Do not convert a dB Rw value to STC or vice versa without engineering review.

Structural Coordination Note

All styleMOVE systems require a structurally adequate ceiling to carry the suspended load of the track, carriage hardware, and panel weight. Stylewall provides stamped engineering calculations for the project structural team to review and incorporate into the ceiling design. This coordination must occur before ceiling works are completed, as post-installation structural modifications are expensive and disruptive.
