Acoustic Testing
& Standards
Stylewall acoustic performance claims are supported by official laboratory tests conducted in accredited facilities. This page explains the standards applicable to our systems and how acoustic ratings are measured and reported.
Sound Transmission Class
STC is the US standard defined in ASTM E413, calculated from laboratory measurements per ASTM E90. It expresses the airborne sound isolation of a partition as a single dimensionless number. Higher STC = more isolation.
Weighted Sound Reduction Index
Rw is the European and international equivalent, measured per ISO 10140 and rated per ISO 717-1. The value is reported with optional adaptation terms C and Ctr for different noise spectra (pink noise / traffic noise).
| Standard | Scope |
|---|---|
| ASTM E90 | Laboratory Measurement of Airborne Sound Transmission Loss |
| ISO 10140 | Acoustics — Laboratory measurement of sound insulation of building elements |
| ASTM E413 | Classification for Rating Sound Insulation (STC) |
| ISO 717-1 | Rating of sound insulation in buildings — Airborne sound insulation |
| ASTM E1399 | Cyclic Movement and Minimum/Maximum Joint Widths for Seismic Joints |
| UL 2079 | Tests for Fire Resistance of Building Joint Systems |
| CTE DB-HR | Código Técnico de la Edificación — Protección frente al Ruido |
All ratings are laboratory-tested values. Field (installed) performance may vary based on flanking paths and construction details. Request project-specific test reports for specification.
